Niko von Glasow and his family bought Villa Pozzolo in 2012 and undertook a massive renovation to bring it back to life. Everyone added their touch: Niko designed the key elements of the house and filled it with his family's collection of antiques. Mandel, his son, revived the land with his enthusiasm for animals, as well as bringing in his training from working at some of the best restaurants in the area, including Cibreó in Florence and Casa Masi in the local village. Juli, his daughter, added murals inspired by ancient Roman examples and used her studies in art history to help with the restoration. Over the years, a wonderful team joined them, including Trinh who is a yoga teacher and a genius in the kitchen, Adriana who brings love to every corner of the house, and Bruno who takes wonderful care of the land.
The beginnings of Villa Pozzolo are in Etruscan times; a castle with a courtyard was first mentioned at the site in 1005 and again in 1113. Transformed many times over the following centuries, there is little left of the castle except probably some blackened bricks and the thickness of some walls. “Pozzolo” means “little well”. Ser Giovanni di Simone Filicaja purchased the castle of Figline in 1452 along with Villa Pozzolo. The Villa would remain in the same family, used partly as holiday apartments in the 1970s and then left unoccupied for nearly two decades until Niko von Glasow and his family bought the property.
Before & After
With the generous donations of friends and guests of Villa Pozzolo, we are helping 800 disabled children and adults to get life-changing surgery to live a more independent, happy life. In these difficult times, we also support families with food and learning materials.
